Advanced Digital Design and Fabrication Research Hub at the Melbourne School of Design of the University of Melbourne is developing a prototype of a tree-like structure reaching the height of 4 meters and holding an ambient cooling system in collaboration with OZMIST, Wangaratta, VIC.
Two full-scale prototypes, each composed of 56 parts milled with a 4-axis machine from native Australian hardwood, are currently developed within the Digital Fabrication Laboratory, a design and research-based fabrication course taught by Darcy Zelenko and Mitchell Ransome, as part of the Digital Design and Fabrication Electives at the Melbourne School of Design, coordinated by Associate Professor Rochus Hinkel.
Prototypes will be installed at the outdoor seating area next to the North Entrance to Melbourne School of Design, Parkville Campus. The team of researchers, tutors, and students behind the project will give a guided tour on Friday 18th March at 12:00 pm
