In this conversation internationally acclaimed Australian designer Visnja Brdar is in conversation with Monash University’s Ian Wong and design historian Dr Denise Whitehouse.

Australian-born Visnja Brdar rejected multiple job offers and launched her own creative studio in Melbourne at the age of 21 to give vision to her creations. Australia’s top brands would soon become her clients, including The Sydney Opera House. Her desire to work with global luxury brands led her to New York City to work with Fabien Baron as an Art Director for Michael Kors, Jil Sander, Giorgio Armani and Nars Cosmetics among others. She reestablished her namesake creative agency BRDAR in New York in 2003.

Ian Wong is an award winning designer, collector, curator and senior lecturer at Monash University. Ian has been invited to curate exhibitions about his research on Australian Design in Milan, Beijing, Hong Kong, Tianjin, Suzhou, Sydney, Adelaide, Launceston, Melbourne and his home town of Shepparton. Exhibitions have included EVERYDAY Australian Design, 100 Objects | Australian design in the home, I-CONIC Australian Design, 60 Years of Good Design, BlackBOX – Design and Innovation | Melbourne Australia, Innovators – Australian Design and Innovation, Zmood – Designing Holdens, and 150 Years of Design in Victoria. Ian is currently Director of the Monash Art Design and Architecture Industrial Design Centre (Kunshan) and Program Director, Master of Industrial Design at Monash Art Design and Architecture, Monash University. This double Masters degree is delivered at the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School in Suzhou, China. In 2021 Ian was awarded a GOOD DESIGN AUSTRALIA – GOLD AWARD for Design Research.
Dr Denise Whitehouse is a design historian dedicated to the development of an Australian design history. Convenor of DHARN, the Design History Australia Research Network, www.dharn.org.au, Denise co-curated the acclaimed Design for Life: Grant and Mary Featherston exhibition at the Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne in 2019 and wrote the accompanying sell-out book. She is currently the John Truscott Foundation Research Fellow tasked with producing a manuscript that captures both the magic and cultural significance of his work
