Jordan Wood’s works wrestle in spaces between histories and fictions, artefacts and the discarded, what we choose to conceal and decide to expose. The roots nestled within lived experience, sometimes tumultuous, but the paper cuttings come from disparate sources and nonlinear timescapes, allowing space to rethink the role of the past in imagining our future. Nostalgia is present, a tricky phenomenon to dance with in a time of accelerated changes and uncertainty. Both comfort in the familiar yet a longing for what is lost.
The collages pull together fragments from the past, preserved in print, to re-examine and reuse as tools to navigate our current times. Collage takes the form of a healing modality, restructuring experiences to present multiple understandings and potential propositions. Memory and nostalgia aid analysis of what has and has not worked. Through collating shapes, forms, movements and ideas from various sites, the exhibition is a composite of collective memories and personal experience.
