AUTHENTIC DESIGN ALLIANCE presents CAGED by Ash Allen, an exhibition of one-off interpretations of modern furnishing icons recreated by Ash Allen as a statement about how replica and knock-off furniture are empty and meaningless. The project grew during Melbourne’s series of rolling lockdowns as an expression of being caged with Ash reflecting that this also represents how copied designs harm culture, the environment, and the industry at large. The installation is accompanied by a series of limited-edition photographic works of the collection by Tom Blachford.
This exhibition is curated and produced by AUTHENTIC DESIGN ALLIANCE director Anne-Maree Sargeant, and supported by: Tomek Archer, CocoFlip, Euroluce, Living Edge, Cult and JRF.
This exhibition is part of FUTURES COLLECTIVE exhibition at the Villa Alba Museum.
Participants
Former editor-at-large of BELLE Magazine, AMS was part of the team that established SPACE FURNITURE and ran Space Sydney for a decade. After helming her own design-driven marketing agency she took over the governance of the AUTHENTIC DESIGN ALLIANCE in 2015 to actively advocate for IP law changes and educate about the importance of supporting, promoting and specifying original products, materials and brands. AUTHENTIC DESIGN ALLIANCE is a social enterprise leading the fight to stop furniture design theft in Australia. It exists to support and promote original creators, products and brands, and the people who make, sell and specify authentic furnishings.
