We are Yiling and Yuchen, two young designers undertaking the Master of Architecture at RMIT University. We are interested in participating in Melbourne Design Week to explore the disconnect and mistranslations between the design discipline and the public.

Whilst working in the architectural industry for the past three years, the two of us also explored our interest in architecture and the public through multiple competitions and events. We were finalists for the Future Park International Design Competition, where we explored how burial places could be integrated with public space through a Melbourne-wide master plan. With Caliper Journal, we produced three publications celebrating the work of young designers by creating a platform for design dialogue among academics, students and those working in the profession.

Yiling has worked on the editorial team for ArchDaily, as well as interning with the Office of the Victorian Government Architect. She has been involved in many civic architecture projects, engaging with community consultation and design workshops. Yuchen is a two times recipient of the Design Excellence Award at RMIT, as well as being shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Design Award. They have been involved in the Tallin Biennale, and worked in the industry on many education and civic projects.
