Claire Myers & Laura Banfield

Claire Myers is a Melbourne-based fashion designer and founder of Lambert, a label developing low environmental impact apparel by using upcycled fabrics and implementing digital prototyping technologies. Claire launched her brand after returning home from London where she cut her teeth at the label Molly Goddard. Claire graduated from the Bachelor of Fashion Design at RMIT in 2018 during which time she undertook internships at two Melbourne based womenswear labels. In her third year of study she lived for six months in Manipal, a regional town in Southern India, on an exchange program where she trained in tailoring and traditional Indian embroidery techniques. Soon after, Claire returned to Melbourne to complete her yearlong Honours project. Her Honour’s collection was presented at MelbourneFashion Week Emerging Designer Runway. Claire’s involvement with the fashion industry began at 17 when she was awarded a grant and mentorship from the University of Queensland for her co-founded online vintage and upcycled garment boutique. During this time she grew an online community and love of material experimentation which has followed her through her career.

Laura Banfield is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia. Her work explores relationships between fashion, material, and bodies by moving beyond the conventions of how bodies are presented and what, how, and why material is worn. To date, Laura’s projects span wearable pieces, installation, photography, and dance. Providing an avenue to question social and political dimensions of the body and material culture, Laura’s work has been exhibited both locally and internationally, including at NGV’s Melbourne Design Week, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, and Berlin Fashion Week. She has collaborated with choreographer Deanne Butterworth on costume design for Slow Calm Drama (2021), the architectural office OCTA, and the art collective 227768c on numerous site-based installations, and teaches within the Bachelor of Fashion (Design) program at RMIT University.
