Agency

Agency

Agency is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander not-for-profit organisation. Established in 2019 in response to an identified need expressed by cultural leaders, Agency is a national organisation, with offices in Naarm (Melbourne) and on Larrakia Country in Garramilla (Darwin). Agency’s values align with the foundations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resilience – strength and generosity.

Agency develops and facilitates new and stable platforms that promote, celebrate and support cultural maintenance; allow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership to thrive; and feature strong participation and economic opportunities for First Nations people. This is achieved through creating strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and communities; attracting bold and ethical investments; creating inspiring networks of giving; and generating strong engagement and awareness around the cultural, social, economic and environmental impact of its projects.

Agency not only exists to establish meaningful new connections between First Nations–led initiatives and social and ethical giving, but also to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, culture and people through the facilitation of bespoke learning opportunities, exhibitions, events, publications, residencies and cultural experiences for audiences in Australia and abroad.

At the Melbourne Design Fair, Agency presents a curated selection of objects from acclaimed National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award–winning artists: Pedro Wonaeamirri from Jilamara Arts & Crafts Association in the community of Milikapiti (Tiwi Islands) and Regina Pilawauk Wilson from Durrmu Arts Aboriginal Corporation based in Peppimenarti (West Daly). Designed to promote and elevate the knowledge, expertise and ingenuity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander thinking in the world of contemporary design, the works will spark conversations around traditional design, contemporary interpretation and continued relevance.
