AGDA has aligned the works of design business partnerships to showcase their ability to create change for civic good. The two case studies are drawn from the 2021 AGDA Award Winners with a talk from the respective designers and clients involved. We learn about the problem, the process and the outcomes for each of the projects with insight into the collaborative role of design in business.
Case Study 1: ‘Wet Wipes Block Your Pipes Campaign’ by Studio Binocular and Yarra Valley Water — AGDA 2021 Award Winner for Design Effectiveness highlights shifting community attitudes and changing behaviours.
Case Study 2: ‘You, Me and Money: Preventing Economic Abuse in Young Adult Relationships’ by Today, RMIT and YLab — AGDA 2021 Award Winner for Design For Good, creating tools to have better conversations about love and money.

Laura is the founder and Creative Director at Studio Binocular, who partners closely with clients to advance the creative direction of their brands.
Julian speaks about the project from the client side from Yarra Valley Water. As the customer strategy and insights manager, he utilises data-led decision making to drive behaviour change and grow brand equity. Yarra Valley Water is the largest of Melbourne’s three water corporations, servicing 4000 square kilometres and a network of around 20,000 kilometres of water and sewer mains.
Callan worked at Today with RMIT and YLab to develop this project as the design lead and facilitator. He is currently undertaking a PhD to study how co-design might help us build better relationships.
Dr Jozica Kutin’s research has focused on strategies to prevent economic abuse in young adult relationships. She is a research fellow at RMIT University and Senior Researcher at the Victoria Law Foundation.
