Nature Invasions; Furling Unfurling

Nature Invasions; Furling Unfurling Past Event

Presented by Emilia Storm

Nature, art and design-making invades Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub as an exhibition, art happenings and workshops to explore emotions drawn out by the pandemic, including anxieties towards climate change and natural disasters. These emotions have inspired a series of sculptural lights, which visualise cocooning and transformation, and investigate contrasts and contradictions of making lights with dark themes. Also present are lichen-inspired art works that sneak into architectural spaces while in a library vitrine, ‘Nature Invasions’ wearable art is displayed. Nature Invasions; Furling Unfurling exhibits representations of nature to remind the visitor to embrace nature’s wisdom as a part of a healthy world view.

Nature Invasions; Furling Unfurling is exhibited during Emilia Storm’s open-studio residency at the Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub.

Emilia Storm

Emilia Storm has an arts and design practice of over twenty-five years. She was a multi-award winning student at the Victorian College of the Arts finishing with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Sculpture in 1995. Storm has developed an artistic language that references abstract expressionism through intricate colour-infused sculptures and design pieces that creatively play with forms from nature. Her practice has focussed on creating environments that inspire imagination through multi sensory experiences with musical and sculptural installation and poetic narrative and extends to design objects like wearable art and artworks for interiors such as wall pieces, mobiles and lighting. Storm’s arts practice has included exhibitions at the Gasworks Sculpture Park, Yarra Sculpture Space and Cowwarr Arts Space, and private commissions of cast bronze works as well as many group shows. Several large scale permanent public artworks, such as Harmony Garden-musical sculptures, can be seen at Melbournes Docklands. She maintains studio’s in Bellfield and in Northcote and her work is in numerous design stores. www.emiliastorm.com Find Emilia on instagram as @stormyemilia
