Australian Furniture Design Award Exhibition Past Event

Presented by Stylecraft

The National Gallery of Victoria and Stylecraft present the Australian Furniture Design Award 2022 (AFDA) as part of Melbourne Design Week. AFDA is an opportunity for design practitioners to submit a new and original furniture or lighting design concept to be in the running for Australia’s richest furniture design prize. The biennial award fosters Australian designers and makers through professional mentoring, commercial production opportunities and a $20,000 prize.

The shortlisted designers for the 2022 AFDA are Ashley Eriksmoen, Chris Connell, Elliot Bastianon, Danielle Brustman Studio and Trent Jansen. Their realised designs will be exhibited in the Stylecraft showroom at 145 Flinders Lane during Melbourne Design Week 2022.

The winning designer will receive a $20,000 cash prize, an invitation from Stylecraft to develop a design through to commercial production for distribution and a two-week residency program at JamFactory in Adelaide to experiment with new ideas and materials, prototype new work or explore new making processes.

Previous AFDA winners – Seaton McKeon (2015), Elliat Rich (2017) and James Walsh (2020), will also be celebrated and have their resulting ranges with Stylecraft previewed.
